Dances with Words

Skinny by Donna Cooner

SkinnyAuthor Donna Cooner wastes no time in putting readers right where she wants them: into the classroom as 300+ pound Ever Davies makes her way  to the back, dislodging notebooks and purses, accompanied by eye-rolling and snarky comments. Nothing anyone says is as bad as the list of her failures that “Skinny,” the bad angel on her shoulder, is constantly whispering in her ear.

When her chair breaks under her at an awards ceremony, Ever realizes she needs help. Having failed at weigh loss many times before, she decides to have the risky gastric bypass procedure that will change her body–and her life–forever. With her dad and her best guy friend Rat, she  struggles to reclaim her “real” self–the one hidden under hundreds of pounds of fat. The author herself had gastric bypass and  Skinny contains accurate details about the procedure. It’s a terrific read for guys and girls of all sizes. Skinny is available in the Classroom Library.
